Approximately 50 students trained at the USKF's first black and brown belt course of 2008. Students were split into Kyu and Dan grades, with Senseis Michael Sherlock and David Royle each taking a group.
Sensei Sherlock took the Dan grades through various kumite techniques, getting the students out of the 'comfort zone' of standard movements and placing emphasis on speed and effective technique.
Sensei Royle took the brown belts through the techniques needed for their Dan grading, concentrating on the special combination and placing particular emphasis on good hip and chest movement in relation to all required techniques on the syllabus.
After a short break, both Senseis concentrated on kata with Sensei Sherlock taking the brown belts through Bassai Dai in detail. Sensei Royle took the Shodans through Jitte while the Nidans and above concentrated on kata Chinte.
Students and Senseis alike commented on the great atmosphere in the dojo as a result of the excellent turnout and are looking forward to the Free All-Grades Course on January 26th in Corduff
