There was an excellent turnout by members of the USKF Ireland and other associations for Sensei Sherry’s Black and Brown Belt Course on Saturday. Over 60 students trained for the 3-hour course which was divided into two classes.
The first, a kumite class, began with basic punches and developed into partner work and line-ups, with students being split into groups of similar grade. There was an excellent atmosphere during the class, particularly the line-ups where one student was constantly attacked with varying techniques by a line of their peers. After a short break, Sensei Sherry concentrated on kata: brown belts studied Bassai Dai, Shodans and Nidans concentrated on kata Jitte while Sandans and above worked on Unsu. Sensei Sherry spent time on individual movements for the three groups allowing students who may not have know the kata time to learn the moves, while people who already knew the kata were given the chance to perfect their techniques.
There was excellent feedback after the class and the USKF Ireland looks forward to Sensei Sherry’s next trip to Dublin on April 4th for a course and Dan grading.
