USKFI Chief Instructor Michael Sherlock demonstrates self-defence techniques on Newbridge SKC Instructor Keith Sherlock

A very successful Black and Brown Belt Course was held last Sunday by USKFI Chief Instructor Michael Sherlock. The course, hosted by Newbridge SKC, began with some warm-up techniques designed to improve leg speed and agility. The class then moved on to partner work with a series of combinations that applied the same principles as the earlier basics.  Sensei then changed the focus of the class to teach a series of techniques that could be used in self-defence situations. He demonstrated several effective techniques, with the class having plenty opportunity to practice and adapt the movements to suit their own physiques. Sensei Sherlock finished the class with kata Bassai dai for brown belts and Nijushio for black belts. The atmosphere in the class on the day was superb with excellent feedback received afterwards.
